Today is Jack’s original due date but decided four months ago that October was more his style than Valentine’s Day. While today brings up many emotions, we are proud to have come this far and hopeful for what’s to come.
Due Date Day – 2/14/16
Actual Age: 16 Weeks
Gestational: 40 Weeks
Corrected Age: 1 Day old
Weight: 8 lbs 0 oz
We have worked 4 months to bring Jack to 1 day old corrected. As we move into this next phase of micro preemie land- everyday moving forward Jack will be working to develop and progress against his corrected age. Meaning that when he is actually 5 months old (in a few weeks) he should be doing things a 1 month old full term baby would do. It’s as if the 4 months outside the womb were a practice run for the big game.
We are asked all the time “now that Jack’s full term or now that Jack weighs what a normal baby weighs, can he come home?” The answer we used to give was a long winded explanation about each and every health challenge he would need to successfully clear and where he stacked up to date. Now we just say “it’s up to Jack”. And that’s the real answer. We have no idea. Our baby was only halfway through his developing and growing inside the womb when he was abruptly brought into it our world and expected to survive, adapt and develop with no training wheels. He’s doing his best and if his best takes many more months – that’s absolutely ok with his two #1 fans. We are still on part 1 of this micro preemie journey and are focused on getting Jack healthy and safely home. Part 2 will be the moment we settle in at home and the doorbell rings for the first of many therapists to work with us.
There will always be a slight uphill for us to climb but think about how strong our legs will be at the end of this life.

I personally think that Jack should always have two birthday celebrations; one for the day he entered the world and the second for his due date. What an amazing battle he has fought growing outside of the womb. He is a true miracle!!! He gives Zia Kelly’s happy born day expression a whole new meaning. Love you all and praying for you all constantly. Looking forward to the day we get to meet jack!
