13 weeks (37 weeks gestational) Update
weight: 2,820(6 lb 3 oz)| height: 19.5 inches
Happy 13th Week Mr. Jack! And what a week it was!
NICU Updates:
Eyes– Two weeks post laser treatment and the Doctor is pleased with how they are progressing.
Brain Bleed – Ultrasounds are looking the same week to week and no new fluid build up.
Respiratory– Still on CPAP with no back up rate (awesome!), just need to move the needle on his Oxygen flow requirements (less awesome). Little by little we will get there but this has been our highest hurdle for awhile.
Growth– Jack is officially 2 kilos heavier than the day he was born (at 770 aka 1 lb 11 oz). There are chin rolls, arm rolls, leg rolls, butt check rolls. And it’s glorious.
Bigger Boy Crib- Last week after the poop felt round the world, Jack graduated to a big boy crib from his isolette. This week, Jack found himself in a bigger boy crib — didn’t think it was possible? Us either! We are so fortunate to have Jack in a hospital where the Nurses go well above and beyond their duties looking after our son. One of them being, spotting an extra big boy crib that can be used for Jack to help with his development, physical therapy and overall stimulation. It’s incredible — and it allowed one of Jack’s parents (you’ll never guess which one) to run out to the baby store down the road during her their lunch break and quickly buy a vibrating bouncey chair, boppy, mobile, mirrors, and a baby einstein fish tank– because one cannot simply lay in a crib, one must LIVE AND LOVE that crib. It was perfect timing with snow storm Jonas coming to town the next day.
Outside NICU Updates:
Blizzard 2016- January 23rd 2016 is the first and only day we have spent without Jack. We had full intentions of getting to him somehow on Saturday but when we woke up and saw how dangerous the road conditions were, we knew we had been defeated by Jonas. First things first- call the hospital to check on Jack. Luckily he was snowed in with some of our and his favorite gals at the NICU. Also lucky that’Daddy’ went on that shopping spree the day before so there was an assortment of brain stimulating activities for our little guy. Throughout our snow day we called to check in constantly and our sweet nurses sent us pictures because they knew how desperate we were to be there. Jack made it through his first snow storm like a champ and you can bet the moment the sun rose on Sunday and the roads were plowed just enough- we were zipping right over to him and hugging extra tight.
Cheers to 13 weeks Jack and cheers to Spring and Summertime- can’t get here soon enough!
