In our short amount of time in the NICU we have met other parents with little ones in there, some for hundreds of days and some as new as ours.  It’s a community of strength like no other and a week ago this community, this hospital, this life wasn’t ours but today we’re behind the velvet ropes of this exclusively small but fierce group of families fighting for their babies and for each other.

We have been told time and time again from other parents to prepare for the NICU roller coaster of progress and setbacks.  Not to get too excited for one step forward because lurking around the corner is a setback of three steps.  We got our first setback on day two.

They have discovered a Grade 4 bleed on Jack’s brain during his scan.  Brain bleeds are ranked 1-4, 4 is the worst.  The most daunting part is we can only wait and see what the damage is when he starts developing, months-years down the line.  The bleed has definitely damaged some of his ‘wiring’ but to the extent of the disabilities he might endure, only time will tell.  I want off this roller coaster. Day two.
