We have breast milk people!
Hours after Jack arrived a lactation specialist was teaching us how to pump every 2-3 hours to get to work on milk supply that thought it had four more months to kick back and relax. After a few days and no sleep we were in business. It was a small business but the doctors told us repetitively that mother’s breast milk was imperative for preemies, especially micro preemies (babies under 26 weeks old), even if it was just to coat their lips.
We were determined. It was the only thing we could be useful for these days. Sitting on the sidelines and watching is not our thing. We were going to be the best pumpers in all the land!
Today was also our first day of helping change Jack’s diaper and take his temperature check. We were off the sidelines.
